Air France Boeing 777

Hi Capt Lim,

I am going to Boston at the end this month from Houston and flying on a Boeing 737-800 there and a Boeing 737-500 on way back.

I am TERRIFIED to fly!!! I am also flying Air France out of Houston to Paris in June. I am already panicking! I worry about flying Air France, are they safe??

What do you think?

Please help me to relax and be calm....

Katie

Hi Katie,

I have written a lot on fear of flying. Perhaps you would like to read an interview I have with a journalist, Louisa from Malaysia, published today (14th May 2011) see here. It has the gist of what I have been saying to all fearful flyers in my site.

When you ask me how safe is it to fly with Air France despite the tragedy of AF447, I would say it is still safe - probably even safer than taking a drive to the supermarket.

If I were you, I would not worry at all because I know the risk is smaller than taking a bus ride. Do you panic when you plan a journey on this mode of transport?

Please watch the two good videos below that I have repeatedly recommended to fearful flyers to watch.

I wish you a pleasant flight on the Boeing 777alt.

Air France safe??
Hi Cap Lim,

With the final report of the incident, Air France was dilatory in reaplcing the pitot tubes for their aircrafts and did not have enough pilot training in dealing with critical situation. Now, with these two major indications and with your extended experience in industry, would you still say AF is trustworthy company and safe to fly with? AF has a pretty bad safety record in the company history and in industry. I would rather pick Malaysia Airline than AF.
