I am 20 years old this year and I finished my SPM on 2010 with straight A’s. What I know is that there are a lot of jobless pilots in Malaysia.
The best solution perhaps is to get a scholarship with AirAsia or MAS to ensure a job "guarantee" rather than to self-sponsor.
SIA has frozen their cadet pilot intake. As for MAS, there's no news about any new pilot recruitment.
I'm left with AirAsia which will open their application on 1st April 2013. I've emailed HM Aerospace and they've replied that their next intake will commence on 22nd April 2013 - which means I've to apply now.
Shall I wait for AirAsia or just enrol with the Flying School at HM Aerospace?
Thanks a lot.
It is true that there are still many jobless pilots in Malaysia but the situation is improving with the formation of the new budget carrier, Malindo Airways.
Singapore Airlines (SIA) and Malaysia Airlines (MAS) are not recruiting due to the downturn. AirAsia seems to be one that is still recruiting (not sure of the date you mentioned) but in view of the large number of applications, competition is going to be very tough.
Do not be in a haste to rush into enrolment yet as you would saturate the market. Obviously, it would be better to be sponsored by an airline to guarantee a flying job after graduation.
Instead, plan well ahead for the interview as there are some guides and information found in this site to assist you.
At the moment, there are too many local flying schools churning out too many fresh pilot graduates for the limited places available in the airlines. If you are prepared to spend a large sum of your parent’s money in the hope of getting a flying job soon, then go ahead. This may also be one of the option if you fail to secure a sponsorship. PS.
