Jetstar Asia Cadet Pilot Program
Pilot Career - Becoming a Pilot
Saturday, 26 February 2011 15:57

Dear Captain Lim,

I'm a Singaporean and have always aspire to become a commercial pilot with the airlines. Recently, Jetstar Asia has announced that they will be having an Ab-Initio Cadet Pilot Program. More information over here.

Basically, it's a self funded program and after completion of the program, Jetstar Asia will offer a 5 years contract. I read from the online forums that self-funded programs are quite common over in Europe.

What do you think of this program? And after 5 years, do you think that the pilots would have sufficient hours to increase their chances of employability with other airlines?

I understand there are other cadet programs from SIA and Cathay Pacific - had read up on them but I would love to hear your opinion on this Jetstar program.

Thank you.

Regards,

commercial pilot wannabe

My Dream, A Reality
Hi Pilot Wannabe,

I think this is a very good program. Now, there are more avenues for male or female pilot wannabes, especially for those who have some flying experience to fulfill their dreams.

In five years time and with an Airbus A320 rating, you would have at least 3000 hours to make you quite marketable with other airlines.

I see that the assessment process by Jetstar Asia is quite rigorous and if you can get through it, you are a good product!alt

I wish you all the best!
