Malaysian Flying Academy - Our Women Of The Skies

Hi Captain Lim,

I am a Malaysian female and I really want to get into those major airlines and work as a pilot. However, I understand there is a long and tough way to go. I am going to graduate with my Science Degree in 2015.

I am thinking of getting a CPL with my own money because there is no cadet program available for Malaysians. I have limited funds for the entire course which is around USD100k?

I am just wondering which one is the best flight school on your mind.

a. Integrated ATPL program with CAE Oxford Aviation Academy in Phoenix, USA.
b. Aerocadet full ATPL program with Aviator College in Florida, USA
c. CPL(certificate IV in aviation) Basair Aviation College in NSW, Australia

Or any other alternative options you would recommend to me?

Your advice is greatly appreciated! Hope to hear back from you soon.

Thank you Captain Lim!

Failed pilot interview twice and very depressed…
Pilot Career - Interviewing Process

Top 10 pilot interview questions and answers

Hi Captain Lim,

I stumbled upon your website while looking for some information on interviews for second officer and would really really appreciate your advice and enlightenment.

My boyfriend had graduated from a renowned flying school in the UK for almost close to a year now. He had been to two interviews for two major regional low cost carriers and unfortunately failed both interviews. I understand that reasons are not provided after you were not selected, but I am really curious as to what might have been the factors that could have led to him not getting through.

He recently got rejected at Stage 3 of the selection, which was based on group work and a face to face interview. As per his academics and track record, he's performed well. As an individual, he's an excellent team worker, as well as an calm and composed boy.

He's in his early twenties. I do not know whether his age was an issue, but from what I remembered, the airlines that he both interviewed with, he spoke to some individuals who were working for the airline and was told that they could help him and give him some advice. I'm not so sure if that could have jeopardized his interview instead. He's currently very depressed and clueless.

Your reply would be greatly appreciated.

How to read an Audiogram

Hi Capt. Lim,

Your book, Life in the Skies truly inspires me a lot.

I've been dreaming of becoming an airline pilot since when I was a little boy.

I have just graduated with a BS in Aerospace Engineering last March. I am planning to proceed to flying.

Will I be qualified to undergo flying training if I have hearing problem, especially on my left ear?

I am looking forward to your response.

Thank you captain

Are twin turboprop engines as safe as twin jet engines planes?
Aviation - Air Crash

TransAsia Airways ATR 72 Crash

Hi Capt Lim,

Are twin turboprop engines planes as safe as twin jet engines planes? Why is a loss of one turboprop engine resulted in an air crash?

Can we assume that a turboprop engine doesn’t have surplus power as much as jet engines aircraft?
