Dear Captain Lim,

I came across your website - very good and very informative!

Here are my questions - I know it's too early to speculate and I know that the pilots of 777 Heathrow crash are called heroes but I think they are very lucky.

If the plane had lost power on both engines at 600 feet and after trying to increase thrust manually and failing to get a response, then surely their prime concern at that moment must have been that plane would stall and fall short of runway...correct?

Yes, there has been concern about the new networking structure of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. This is because the Boeing 787 allows new kind of passenger connectivity that can pose safety issues when the data and system of the plane are intruded. Consequently, the passenger networks may be able to eventually control the in-plane networked systems. This raises the possibility of the plane being hacked in flight.

Dear Captain Lim,

Many thanks for your useful and informative site which I have been reading for many years. I am now flying again after a twenty year break due to fear of flying. Your site has helped me achieve this.

My question is that, during my RYA Yachtmaster course, I have to learn the art of navigation at sea using a compass. However, the normal method is the GPS. We have to learn this in case the GPS fails.

How likely do you think this is and how would a pilot cope if the GPS system went down?
