My last Boeing 777 flight to Cairo on 19 Mar 2006
Welcome!
Dear Visitors,
After about seven long years, I have finally switched over to a more dynamic site through the advice of my son. The older site has not been very active since I moved over from flying the Boeing 777 to the Airbus A320 as age caught up with me.
I must apologize to many visitors who have written to me as I could not acknowledge every mail that I have received. However, I have now included an auto-responder to take care of this problem.
Yes, many readers (especially aspiring pilots) have continued to ask me repeated questions. Please note that there are more than 1010 FAQ in my main site now. Most of the information asked are also available in the Airlines Pilot Forums. Whilst I strive to answer every email in the beginning, I cannot guarantee a personal or immediate response to all now. Nevertheless, I will try my best but you can be assured that, new and interesting questions will be answered as soon as I have the time.
This site was started as a hobby. It has certainly evolved and expanded in scope over the years. Yes, I find it to be an interesting past time otherwise I would have stopped running it a long time ago. To relieve my workload, I have since started the Forums so that I can get visitors/moderators to help out as I cannot possibly answer every question satisfactorily.
As I start this new site, I will be transferring all the FAQ from my Weblog (Airborne with the Captain) as well as my previous main site at AskCaptainLim... Flying Safely on the Boeing 777 here. It will take sometime for me to do all the transfer. I will take my time to repost and sort them out into more manageable categories. I have started a new Video category as well as adding many YouTube videos to my posts. I think these will be more interesting as I can direct you all to the right video for the answers. A picture is worth a thousand words! My apologies if some of the links do not work during the transition. For your information, only about 75 per cent have been moved over so far. Please drop me a line if you encounter problems here.
As many of my previous visitors are aware, I have been flying the Boeing 777 for almost 9 years with Malaysia Airlines. I have also logged a total of about 23000 flying hours up to date. My area of operation stretched from Auckland in the East to New York in the West. Alas, my international flying came to an end through an ICAO ruling that pilots above 60 years can only fly domestic flights (this has been amended in November 2006). In the meantime, I am quite happily settled down flying on domestic and regional routes on the Airbus A320 as I can come back home after every flight!
Well, with my experiences, I hope I can share everything I know about flying with my readers. So far, I have tried to answer most of the queries in very simple language. I am neither an English professor nor a writer in the right sense of the word. So, do bear with me. Please do not ask me non-air travel, repeated or very technical questions. I don't claim to know everything as the title 'Ask Captain Lim' was partly suggested by a reader when I moved over from my first website in Geocities.com.
I would like to thank all those plane spotters who have permitted me to use their airplane photos in my site ...also to YouTube for the use of their video clips. Where queries require extensive researches, I have also made use of some technical materials from many sources in the Internet. If I have failed to mention the sources, kindly accept my apologies.
Any reference or description of the operations of the Boeing 777 or other airplanes is not the official view of the manufacturers nor any airlines implied. I would greatly appreciate any comments, reports on broken links or errors made in this web site from you all. Please send a short email to me
