Hi Captain Lim!
I will be flying in a couple of weeks from Singapore to Cape Town with my 18-month-old baby on a Boeing 777-200.
Can you please tell me the airports on our route in case of engine failure that we can divert to? We will be flying over the Indian Ocean and I cannot see any airports in case of an emergency landing.
I am terrified of flying and this would really help a lot if I knew the airports where the aircraft can land, if need be.
Much appreciated and many thanks,
Alicia.
Hi Alicia,
The Boeing 777-200 can now fly more than 3 hours on ETOPS with one engine in case the other one fails. So there are many airports within the range of the 777 over the Indian Ocean from Singapore to Capetown. Some of the major airports are:
1. Colombo in Sri Lanka
2. Male in the Maldives Island
3. Mauritius
4. Antananarivo in Madagascar
5. Johannesburg in South Africa.
Have a pleasant flight to Cape Town!
