Hi,

I'm a 21 year old Malaysian who will be about 23 to 24 at the time of graduation with a degree in Biotechnology. Can anyone tell me if I am still within the acceptable age limit for a SIA cadet pilot scholarship?

Ranger.

Hi Ranger,

The age range for Singaporean is from 26 till 32 years (due to Air Force requirements) and up to a maximum of 45 ( if you are ex Air Force pilots converting to commercial flying)

For Malaysians, it is from 19 to 28 years maximum but if you have your own CPL/IR and frozen ATPL, SIA may take in Malaysians up to 32 years.

Most Malaysians got in SIA cadet at the age of 19 and they will be flying the the B777 at a young age of 21. By the time they are 28 to 30, they are already captains when most Singaporean may just enter as a cadet.

PPL

Hi,

From what I have gathered in the Forum, it seems like there is a age limit for Singaporean cadet pilot set at minimum of 26. So, does that mean those under that age will not even be shortlisted for the interview? I am only 24 1/2 of age and only currently holding a Diploma but I was shortlisted for the interview next coming Friday.

Flymetothemoon

Hi,

26 years is to fulfill the requirement set by CAAS to issue the licence as an agreement with RSAF for National Services-liable Singaporeans. You can attend the interview and enjoy the good experience. Maybe you're just damn good that they will keep you in their shortlist in time to come.

Cloudchaser

Hi,

Flymetothemoon: If you're a Malaysian or Singapore PR, that 26 year old age limit does not apply. As Cloudchaser had said, its only for NS liable Singaporeans. Minimum age for Malaysians is 20 if I can recall it correctly...

For Singaporeans, I've heard that its possible to apply for the cadet-ship before 26 if you can get a letter from the RSAF stating that they will not consider you in future then send a copy of the letter together with your application.  There have been a few Singaporeans who got in when they were 24+

maximum entry age for pilots?

By: alfie (Guest IP 15.211.153.72) on 10-12-2007

Hi Cpt Lim,

I am currently 28 yrs of age and like many people here, am interested in embarking on a career in aviation. However, I have plans to obtain a private flying license from a local flight school (what are the schools in Singapore?) before I even apply for a position in SIA. I am very interested in flying and hence am willing to fork out whatever amount of money is required. I am just concerned that there might be a upper cap on the entry age for SIA. Also, I am contemplating Lasik before private flight school, and then SIA. Hope to hear your comments on this. Thanks!

that requirement is incorrect. there is at least 1 singaporean cadet below the 'requisite' age of 25.5 right now in SFC.
