Can I become a pilot with Singapore or Malaysia Airlines?

Written by Capt Lim, on 17-12-2007

Dearest Capt Lim,

Hello there! My name is Trirath Boonratana. I am from Malaysia. I find that your website is very interesting. Anyway, my purpose for writing this email is to get some advice and information. I am very interested in becoming a pilot, either with Singapore or Malaysia Airlines.

I am a Grade 1 student with good credits in English and Mathematics. My problem is that I did not take Physics during my school days. I only took General Science which I passed with good credit. Do I qualify to apply to become a pilot? Is it worth trying ?

I am 22 years old. I also have a diploma in Computer Science from a local University. Will that help me even though I don't have Physics as a subject? I can speak three languages - English, Thai and Malay.

Please reply and give me some advice on the above questions.

Thank you.

Trirath Boonratana

Hi Trirath,

From your qualifications, you would probably satisfy the requirements to join Malaysia Airlines but not Singapore Airlines because they require at least two "A" Levels. You must also have credit in Bahasa Malaysia as well.
