Why am I the only one not selected to become a cadet pilot?

Dear Captain Lim,

Your web site has been a real inspiration to all of us who aspire to be pilots. If anything, you deserve the name "Father of Aspiring Pilots". This is especially true for those who never had any direct family, close friends or relatives who are aviators, yet desperately looking up for a role model.

I wanted to earn my wings by joining the Cadet Pilot program with Singapore Airlines (SIA). I went through all the selection phases successfully, viz,

1. Preliminary Interview
2. Aptitude and Psychomotor Test
3. Situational Test
4. Final Interview
5. Tea Party
6. Medical Examination

My mounting expectations and hope with every passing stage, was met with a devastated 'possible' rejection after the last stage (Medical Examination). I'm very sure I'm in tip-top condition as far as my health is concerned. My Medical Examination result was never the problem.

You see, my fellow applicants (those who went through the selection process with me) have all been notified by SIA (they've been successfully accepted by SIA-Cargo) yet I'm the only one who have not received any news from them. I called up to enquire but was bluntly brushed aside by the Human Resources (HR) Officer. I was informed that "the management is finalizing".

Although I have not received the 'official' rejection, yet from my conversation with the HR Officer, I have a strong feeling that I would get a negative answer.

As you've mentioned, most Airlines (SIA, MAS, etc) only open their doors to applicants "one chance in a lifetime", yet passing all those stages and was rejected without any reasons is just too cruel. I'm devastated and depressed.

What can I do? Can I re-apply? Can I appeal? Do you know anyone in SIA that could help me? All I want is to know why I failed. Why I'm the only one given the boot? Am I not good enough?

I'm sorry to lament all these to you. I just need to talk to someone.

Thank you and take care.

Regards,

CJ

Hi CJ

Since you have not received the official rejection letter yet, there might still be hope that you may be put on a later course. Give yourself some time as SIA would normally notify a candidate if he is not successful. Don't be too negative!

However I do sympathize with you for your anguish and disappointment. Please read the past FAQ's that have contents which are almost similar to yours.
