Many questions from an aspiring pilot about SIA recruitment policy.

Written by Capt Lim, on 17-12-2007

Dear Captain Lim,

I am a cadet pilot candidate who has undergone the medical check up on the 21st of May. I have a dilemma here.

After I returning from an interview with SIA, my senior manager would like to assign a new project to me, which require some extensive training. Having passed the medical test and waiting for a reply from SIA, I turned down his offer. Consequently, everyone in the company knew that I was going to leave.

Today, my General Manager called and inform me that he has found a new candidate to replace me. The problem is, when am I leaving? Does SIA confirm when they will recruit me? I am very distressed now as I don't know the answer. I don't want to take the risk of resigning before receiving the offer letter from SIA.

Could you tell me what is the next step after the medical test in the cadet pilot selection? Would there be another short listing process? Could you tell me when the recruitment date is?

Thank you very much for your time! I would really appreciate it if you are able to give me some advice.

Regards,

Melvin Chua.

Hi Melvin,

I am not sure of SIA recruiting policy. You would have to wait patiently if you want to secure a flying job with them. It is difficult for me to predict when the airline would call up a successful candidate. I believe they do keep a pool of candidates in their database to be called up when they need them for the training.

However I have just received an email from another aspiring pilot who told me that SIA is recruiting very aggressively for new cadet pilots at the moment. They are selecting an average of 20 new cadet pilots for every 6 weeks for the whole of 2004.

There you are. Be a little patient and I am sure they would contact you in the end.
