Do I require an Engineering degree to join the SIA cadet pilot course?

Hello Captain Lim,

I am thinking of joining the Singapore Airlines cadet pilot course. This course requires me to hold an University degree. I know most airlines favor people who have an Engineering degree as it deals with Physics which plays a big role in aviation.

However, I am not very keen on taking up Engineering. Are there any other University degrees that might be open to me (which are favored greatly by airlines) to enter Singapore Airlines as a cadet pilot with no flying experience?

Could Aviation Management be an option as it deals with aviation factors?

Marc

Hi Marc,

To join SIA under the Cadet Pilot Program, you only need the basic requirement as stipulated in the advertisement. If you do not wish to take up an Engineering degree, an Aviation Management course would do. The important thing is to get through the selection process.

I know that there are some people who have the perception that, to be a pilot, you need to have the knowledge of a rocket scientist. In reality, you are only required to posses a basic understanding of Physics that is taught in the upper secondary school. Thus, you don't really need an Engineering degree because you are assessed on many other fields in the psychometric test as well.
