Should I go straight to a flying school or should I pursue a degree first?

Hi Capt Lim,

I am a college student in British Columbia , Canada. Unfortunately None of the University here offers any aviation programs.

I am thinking of getting a ECONOMIC degree first, then go to study in a flying school.
Do you think this is a good idea or should I go straight to a flying school?

Your site is very helpful ! Thanks a lot.

Steve.

Hi Steve,

Your query has been asked before.  Briefly, to recapitulate, a Bachelor degree is always an asset to have.  Whether you want to go ahead with the degree or go to a flying course would depend on the current job market.

As I have mentioned to others before, a degree would stand you a good chance of getting into a major airline but low fare airlines in Canada or the USA do not require you to have an university education.

If your ambition is not so lofty in getting into a major airline, your 3 or 4 four years spent to acquire your degree could be used to build up your flying hours before you qualify for an airline interview.

Have a good day!
