Hi Captain Lim,
I have just received the greatest news of my life, and yup, you've guessed it correctly. I have just been accepted into the Flying Academy as a Cadet Pilot with MAS. I will be reporting for my flying training soon.
This is the first time I am writing to you but I have been a regular visitor to your web site. I have to admit that the reason I was successful was mainly due to all the tips and advice that you and other aspiring pilot wannabes have posted. I just want to thank you for your initiative and effort in creating the web site and I am sure it has helped a lot of other people like me.
When I was reading through some of the articles posted by other aspiring pilots describing their experiences from the day they were called up until the day they received the joyous news, it really boosted my determination and confidence. To those out there who are thinking of applying or have already applied to MAS, below are the sequence of the selection process:-
1. Psychomotor Test (This is a test on your hand-eye coordination plus your ability to understand instructions. Tests are carried out using a computer and a joystick, which is somewhat similar to playing computer games but great concentration is required)
2. Aptitude Test (This is actually a written test whereby the applicants are tested on the IQ, Mathematics and English ability. There will be another test on the same day which is to test your personality. Believe me, that personality test is 99.9 % accurate and so please be truthful when answering!)
3. Interview (During my interview, it was carried out by a panel of four (4) pilots / captains and one (1) HR personnel. One point to note during the interview is that one must always remain calm and be truthful when answering. The pilots will always try to provoke, confuse and annoy you just to see how you react to such situation. It will be of extra advantage if you learn up more about their company, i.e. the history, fleet size, awards won, current issues related to the company, etc. Not much technical questions posted to me though I have prepared for it)
4. Medical Examination (This will be the final stage of the selection process. Only candidates that have passed all the above will be called for this medical examination. The medical examination is divided into 2 days. The first day of the examination will be carried out at the airline's medical center. Examinations carried out include visual acuity test, hearing test, heart test, urine test and general examination by the GP. Second day of the examination will be carried out at the airline's panel specialist center where blood test, chest X-Ray and EEG test are carried out)
Well, that's all the information I can provide and I hope it will help those out there who are pursuing the ambition and dream that we all share.
Good luck to all, and Captain Lim, I hope that we will bump into each other one day. I really want to thank you personally for what you have done.
Till then, happy flying.
Best regards,
KL Khoo
