Dear Captain,

I am an Indian science graduate, aged 22 years old. I have always been obsessed with flying and during my undergraduate days, I have already decided to become an airline pilot one day (but not with the military).

Here, in India, to become a pilot, you need a pass in Math and Physics in the 10+2 examination. Unfortunately, I only had a pass in Physics. So I did an additional year to do Maths and have passed it with very good result. I am now qualified to join a flying institution but due to financial problem, I am unable to afford the huge training expenses.

Can you please advise me if there are other ways to become an airline pilot.

Thank you very much for your advice.

Hasan

Hi Hassan,

I am not familiar with the airlines cadet pilot recruitment process in India and I cannot provide you with any good advice here. If you have financial problem, then the best route for you is to join the Air Force to get free training. After the completion of your service, you can join the airlines.

Since you do not like the military route, your choices are limited unless you are accepted by the local airlines as a cadet. Overseas airlines are unlikely to accept you unless you are a citizen or a permanent resident of their countries.

Apllying for aviation

By: Maxwell Joseph (Guest IP 60.52.8.106) on 15-03-2008

Hi, Cpt Lim,

Honestly, I'm very interested in aviation. I heard that the costs for aviation to be a commercial pilot is very high (costs more than RM 150,000 FOR ' FROZEN' ATPL). Is that means that this career is not suitable for an average family income? Is there any financial help like sponsorship for this?
Thank You
