Dear Captain Lim,

Thanks again for your web site. I know I have asked you this before, but it has come to a time when I must decide, which path I would have to follow.

I have just finished High School in Australia and have enrolled into the University of New South Wales Bachelor of Aviation Flying as well as a Diploma of Aviation course at a college nearby. My career aspiration is to fly for Cathay Pacific or Qantas Airways, although, a job with any airlines would be just as good. I understand that Qantas and Cathay are expanding rapidly, but I am unsure which way to head for. I know you have said that if there are job openings, go for the shorter course. However, I do not know which course I should choose at this point in time.

I have also applied for the Cathay cadet program, but I am keen on doing a full time course just in case the cadetship falls through. I also intend to become a flying instructor after my flying training to accumulate hours before applying for a regional airline. This would enable me to get heavier airplane experience before applying for Cathay Pacific.

Given my aspirations, the current job market and aviation job market in Australia and Hong Kong, I would like to seek your advice on which course I should take to achieve my goals.

Thanks once again for all your help. Hopefully, one day, I may be able to fly as a second officer under your command!

Hi George,

In my opinion, the job market is getting very promising in the Asia Pacific Region now. Because of this development, the short course would be a better choice.
