Do you have a solution for me to quit smoking and become a pilot?

Hi Captain Lim,

I am currently pursuing my studies in electrical and electronic engineering in a private college. Your site is really awesome. I am glad to see someone like you doing this. I salute you! Well, I have got a great interest in being a pilot but I have been smoking regularly for the past 2 years. I hope to stop soon. I know you are not a doctor but I think you are the one who can answer my questions.

Do you have a solution for me on how to quit smoking so that I can concentrate on my studies? Secondly, can you suggest some websites where I can find out about all the cockpit instruments? I appreciate your answers soon.

Thank you.

Logan

Hi Logan,

Although there is no law to say a pilot must be a non-smoker, it is definitely not a very good habit to smoke. (I am a non-smoker!).  Remember, a pilot sometimes have to fly on non-stop flights that can last for between 12 to 14 hours at a stretch. So that can be hard on him as it can affect his performance and maybe his career. I do not have a solution for you to stop smoking because it is all up to YOU. You must  have a strong will power and tell yourself to kick that smoking habit now!  I am sure you know its ill-effects already.

Here are the links to some websites and they all relate mainly to flying and the cockpit:-

1.
Basic Aerodynamics
2. Cockpit Instrumentation
3. Introduction to the cockpit.
4. Welcome to EAA.
5. AOPA Flight Training Magazine

Hope all these sites would keep you very busy. Remember, stop smoking!
