Do I stand a good chance in the interview after attending the ATPL course?

Good morning Sir,

I have some enquires regarding the ATPL course being offered in Singapore. Do I stand a good chance of having an edge during the cadet pilot interview after attending the ATPL course?

I have been saving very hard during my NS (National Service).

Subjects being offered are:-

Navigation General (including Plotting)
Flight Planning
Aircraft Instruments
Radio and Radar Aids
Meteorology
Meteorology (Practical)

The head instructor of the course is an aviation professional with the following qualifications and experience:-

Flight Navigator's License
Airline Transport Pilot's License
BSc, MBA (Aviation Management)
Professional Certificate in Aerospace Workshop Operations
Aircraft Maintenance Crewmember
Flight Navigator (B707)
Pilot (B727, B747, A310, ATR72, DC10, LR35A)
Flight Operations Inspector
Current Lecturer in Aeronautical Engineering at a local polytechnic
More than 13300 hours as a Flight Crew

This course is quite hefty and I hope you can guide me on this.

Bryan.

Hi Bryan,

This course is basically offered to pilots who have flying experience - normally ex-military pilots without ATPL.

To apply for an ATPL, you must be 21 years old, hold a current instrument rating and have at least 1500 hours total flight time in an aeroplane. Of course, you must also pass seven written examinations (including those subjects mentioned by you above) and a flight test with a flight examiner.

Attending the ATPL course just for the knowledge without the flying lessons in order to have an edge during the interview would be fine if you have the time and money. I believe, the instructor would recommend that you take up flying lessons as well - together with the ATPL subjects being offered since you do not have any flying hours.

Remember, having the knowledge is just part of the interviewing process. You must also be well prepared in other areas - such as the aptitude tests. For some professional guidance, you can visit this site here.
