How do I prepare for a flight through the Bermuda Triangle?

The Mystery Of The Bermuda Triangle

Hello Capt Lim,

I am a Reggae singer and pilot and am planning a trip to Miami, I have heard that you can cut your time by flying through the triangle.

I want to make it there as quick as possible.

Are there any concerns?

Bob Marley Jr

Hi Bob,

I have no concern whatsoever flying through the Bermuda Triangle. I have said that before and I am saying it again. The Bermuda Triangle is a myth just like the Loch Ness monster.

There are many airways over the Bermuda Triangle. Airlines have to fly over it or else it would take a much longer time to fly around this airspace. The only requirement for planes flying towards this area is that their transponders have to be switched onto the 2100 sqawk code half an hour after crossing the entry point of the Oceanic Control Area (OCA). The Bermuda Triangle is located just to the west of the New York Oceanic OCA. A plane flying from London to Miami would have to fly over the OCA, then over the Bermuda Triangle!

After decades of speculation that aliens, black-hole vortices and evil Atlantis influences were responsible for the disappearance of dozens of ships and planes in the 'Devil's Triangle', the U.S. government agency, NOAA  claims that foul weather and poor navigation are likely to blame for any mishaps in the area between Miami, Bermuda and Puerto Rico.

'There is no evidence that mysterious disappearances occur with any greater frequency in the Bermuda Triangle than in any other large, well-traveled area of the ocean,' the agency stated on its NOAA website.

As such, there is nothing for you to prepare except to be aware of this myth.
