Hello Captain Lim,
I will be flying from San Francisco to Tokyo on United, and have a choice of the Boeing 777 or 747 aircraft.
Which aircraft would you recommend - as my priorities are: safety of the flight and managing turbulence.
I did hear, for example, that the 777 might have an issue with fuel freezing when flying in very cold temperatures, like the polar route. Is this a concern?
On the other hand, I've also heard that the 777 has more modern technology than the 747, and can deal better with air turbulence, which is also a concern of mine.
Thank you for any help with this matter.
Una
Hi Una,
I have answered this question in 16.2.06 (see here ) – more than 5 years ago.
Although I would prefer to fly a more technological-advanced aircraft, both are equally safe. The fuel freezing issue on the Boeing 777 has been addressed and the turbulence part of your question is not a problem on both the planes. The B777 and 747 planes take turbulent flight well.
I wish you a safe flight on either plane !
