I'm surprised that an astronaut gets paid less than a pilot! I always thought that wasn't the case.

So I'm aspiring to fly for a major airline when I'm older (I'm sixteen), but I'm not planning on going to a normal flight school. I want to get my experience from the military (particularly the U.S. Navy). Are there perks to doing that? Will I have an advantage when I want to get hired?
